Last Day of School for Students
Dorchester School District Two would like to correct the perception regarding a possible make up day for the school closure on February 24th.  It has been determined that the district does meet the criteria of recently passed state legislation that allows local school boards to waive make-up days.  Our school board gladly acted on this matter tonight in a called meeting and waived the make-up day. Therefore, Friday, May 29th, will be a half-day and the last day of school for students as originally scheduled.  Thank you to our legislative delegation led by Representatives Jenny Horne and Chris Murphy and Senator Sean Bennett for supporting this bill and for sponsoring an additional bill on our behalf.  Click here to view the approved legislation.  Thank you to parents and staff for your patience as this matter was resolved in the best interest of our students.  Have a wonderful summer.

Dorchester School District Two will take over management of school bus operations
Following an Executive Session on Monday, April 13th, Dorchester School District Two Board of Trustees voted to take over the operation and maintenance of the school bus transportation system at the close of the 2014-2015 school year. The district will not renew the contract with Durham School Services who has managed bus transportation service for the district since 2011-2012.
Fred Hoose, district bus transportation liaison, has conducted an extensive review of district bus operations over the past months and reported that the district could operate the bus transportation system more efficiently and more economically.  By taking over bus operations rather than outsourcing this service, it is projected that the district would save approximately $200,000.  The Board of Trustees and district leadership have worked toward improvement of student bus service this year with several initiatives, such as the purchase of 15 additional school buses for next year approved by the Board of Trustees at the March 16th board meeting.
